Episode 55 focused more on the leader of the 13 squads, the deceptively strong Yamamoto. Rukia is transported to a safer location while Ukitake and Kyouraku deal with their new situation – fighting their sensei, which apparently is beyond what we could even conceive as strong at this part in the anime. More excitement and battles are happening at this point in the anime which is definitely a good thing.
Bleach episode 55, ”The Strongest Shinigami! Ultimate Confrontation Between Teacher and Students“, begins with Ichigo flying down and immediately battling the opposing death gods, giving Renji a chance to run away with Rukia. Trying to chase them, the vice captains are easily defeated by Ichigo without even using his soul slayer. Only with punches, he is able to knock all of them down until he is approached by Byakuya, whom he blocks a sword attack from.
“Why are you continually trying to save Rukia?” Byakuya asks Ichigo. Ichigo responds by asking why he, as his big brother, ISN’T saving her. Byakuya begins infusing his sword with spirit power, which Ichigo seems to not have too much of a problem dealing with. “Ichigo, I will kill you,” Byakuya says, and plans to be the one executing Rukia next time. Renji continues running through the forest with Rukia, who continues to yap at Renji, saying they need to go back and save Ichigo.
Renji talks about Ichigo previously telling him that Rukia changed his destiny, making him a death god so that he can fight and protect everyone. Renji talks about how he believes in Ichigo and Rukia gives him her thanks. Back at the battlefield, the other captains watch as Byakuya battles with Ichigo. From behind, Genryousai expresses his anger in the captains for aiding in the escape of Rukia. Kyouraku grabs Ukitake and runs away with him, saying that everyone would die trying to fight with Yamamoto. He says the two vice captains will be fine, saying that there is another hero drawing near.
Sui-Feng kicks Koketsu in the face, calling her trash for her betrayal and stomping on her chest. From nearby, Yoruichi is seen capturing Sui-Feng and pushing her off the side of the mountain, holding on to her neck as the both of them fall. The two slam into the forest ground below and Isane is shown with her captain, hovering on a strange sting-ray looking creature in the sky, in a safe location elsewhere. The creature lowers to the ground and Unohana’s bankai spits out the vice captains that were injured by Ichigo. She tells the death gods greeting them to get medical attention for them. From below, they can see there is a fight still going on between Ichigo and Byakuya.
Ukitake and Kyouraku arrive at a destination far away, only to see Yamamoto waiting for them. “I’ve never been outpaced by naughty brats,” he says. He claims that what he is about to give them is beyond a beating, and begins walking towards them with a glowing red reiatsu. Nanao believes that Yamamoto, the leader of all the thirteen squads, is practically unbeatable. He unleashes some more of his spirit force, which instantly forces nanao to fall to the ground. “Leave! I do not have the patience to teach a baby like you how to breathe,” he yells to Nanao angrily.
Kyouraku apologizes and takes Nanao to another location to rest, where she is still sweating just by feeling the spirit force of Yamamoto. Kyouraku returns to the location where Ukitake and Yamamoto remain, where Yamamoto recalls the past of the two that are in front of him, recalling that they both possessed incredible strength and were the first to become captains. “I was as proud of you as if you were my own children,” he says. Yamamoto lifts his staff, which erupts into flames and breaks into a soul slayer.
Just by drawing his sword, he is able to force back Ukitake and Kyouraku, both of which have not even drawn their soul slayers. An aura of fire-looking spirit force swarms around Yamamoto and his whole body appears to bulge with muscles, revealing a strangely different body than what the old man had previously appeared to have had. Another swipe from his sword sends flames blasting towards Ukitake and Kyouraku. “Turn everything to ash,” he says.
